From Jerry N. Tomaszewicz, Jr., Executive Assistant to Secretary-Treasurer & CEO Lorena Gonzalez / Field Organizer

"As you may have heard, San Diego's Police Chief decided to crack down on
Occupy San Diego Protesters last night - and raided the Civic Center Plaza.
The San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council will continue with our plans
to bring attention to the economic crisis a majority of Americans are facing, by
assembling at the Civic Center tonight!"

ALL NIGHT VIGIL

San Diego Civic Center

TONIGHT - BEGINNING AT 8 PM

Stay as long as you can, but please be there at 8 p.m. Bring warm clothes, we will bring pizza and water.
PLEASE JOIN THE SOLIDARITY SLEEPOVER!

MONDAY, 2011-10-31

  • 31 Oct 2011 - 11 AM -- Attempt to get personal belongings back from SDPD (see above)

  • 31 Oct 2011 - 11:30 AM -- Teach-in by City Clerk on City Procedures regarding non-agenda public comment.
    • Will be held on steps at Civic Center Plaza.
    • NOTE: Unlike most other jurisdictions, San Diego City Council has the unique practice of censoring public comments based on content, only one speaker per "subject". We are allowed one speaker for "Occupy San Diego" or if we are lucky split up the topic into a number of sub topics, if they go along. In contrast, the City of Irvine allowed 72 speakers on the same nonagenda subject in a marathon 5.5 hour session.

  • 31 Oct 2011 - 5 PM -- Occupy San Diego Monster March
    • March from Balboa Park to the Gaslamp to highlight frightening facts about corruption in America’s financial and political systems
    • Occupy San Diego will lead a Halloween march through downtown San Diego to promote social justice, honesty, and generosity.
    • With costumes, street theatre, and candy, Occupy San Diego will rally at 5:00pm at the Haunted Trail Entrance in Balboa Park (6th & Juniper, just south of the Laurel Street Bridge).
    • March starts at 5:30pm from the Haunted Trail Entrance and will walk to the Civic Center, to Children’s Park, the Haunted Hotel, and ending in the Gaslamp Quarter.

TUESDAY, 2011-11-01

  • 01 Nov 2011 - 10 AM -- San Diego City Council Meeting
    • We must continue to demand that the city of San Diego endorse the OCCUPY SAN DIEGO protest the same why the cities of Los Angeles, Orange, San Francisco, and Irvine have done.
    • PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY (say 9AM) TO "OCCUPY" A SEAT. We have asked them to place this on the agenda, and they have not. (We were given ONE three minute time period to talk about OCCUPY SD during public comment. In Irvine, they allowed 72 speakers and 5.5 hours to hear the concerns of the pubic, and they finally agreed to formally endorse the protest actions. SAN DIEGO MUST DO THE SAME.)
Note: It is my hope that San Diego City Council will schedule some sort of workshop so we can all have our say without disturbing the rules they already have for their city council meeting, where public comment is drastically and artificially constrained. At such a meeting, we can make the case very clearly that it is in the best interests of the City to help us pursue change. Therefore, please stay tuned and we'll let you know if there are any changes of this nature.

  • 02 Nov 2011 - 3:00 PM: Teach-In by Kevin Keenan, Executive Director of the ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties, "Free Speech and the Occupy Movement"
    • If we can get a huge crowd for the ACLU teach-in it would warrant using the front steps and the center of the Civic Center plaza instead of the little table around the side. With the addition of a tent or two and a few chairs, it ought to result in something that ACLU Executive Director Kevin Keenan, who will be giving the teach-in, could use to get an injunction the same way that Nashville did. http://www.bradblog.com/?p=8884

  • 05 Nov 2011 - 12:00 PM: Teach-In by Jeff, "The International Money Power and Their Debt-Dollar Tyranny Exposed"
    • Big Finance Capital covertly created a debt-dollar system that is designed to bankrupt America over time. In addition, they broke Section 2A of the Federal Reserve Act for 25 years running and criminally blew the world's largest credit bubble in human history, lying about their mandate the whole time. I expose the Big Finance Capital / government cartel criminals and I explain how their debt-dollar tyranny works in order to systematically asset strip society and enrich and empower themselves. I also explain what I'm convinced lies ahead - the biggest bust in human history (think Greatest Depression). [This presentation is okay to film]

  • 06 Nov 2011 - 1:00 PM: Teach-in by Prof. Emanuele Saccarelli, SDSU entitled: "Democracy and Socialism"
    • The lecture will explain how the democratic aspirations of working people would be met in the process of reorganizing society along socialist lines. A few crucial historical experiences, including the Paris Commune of 1871 and the Russian Revolutions of 1905 and 1917 will be examined. The 'Commune' and the 'Soviets' represented new forms and institutions of democratic rule and representation which were developed by working people in their struggle for equality. The lecture will also discuss the contemporary significance of these institutions with particular reference to the failure of the nominal 'democracy' that exists today as well as the challenges confronting the 'Occupy' movement.

MONDAY, 2011-11-07

  • 07 Nov 2011 - 4:30 PM -- City Council Meeting Prep -- Martha Sullivan will be conducting a brainstorming session to help plan for our public comments at the City Council meeting on Tuesday.
  • 07 Nov 2011 - 6:00 PM -- Carl DeMaio fundraiser for “small businesses shut down by Occupy San Diego Protestors” at Downtown Johnny Brown’s. DeMaio picked that location and time for a reason: He and the media will be hoping and looking for a disturbance by any of the occupiers. We must not allow any such disturbance to occur. OSD is NOT hosting our own fundraiser for these businesses, because this only makes it seem that we've done something wrong, which we haven't. These businesses would be selling out of their products if they were open. Carl DeMaio is trying to leverage this situation for media exposure, and nothing more.

Ray Lutz will be conducting this "hands on" tutorial/discussion session, held at Luther Tower at the corner of 2nd Ave and Beech St. (1455 2nd Ave, San Diego, CA 92101) - http://www.copswiki.org/Common/LutherTower
    • Foswiki is absolutely the most productive system I have ever used for very general purpose organization of web data. It is NOT a discussion forum (that does not really allow much organization) but instead is a structured wiki, that allows for dynamic content creation, easy web page creation, etc. and allows anyone to help from any browser in the world. Unlike most website creation programs, this platform does not have a single-user bottleneck, and there is no problem with passwords, struggles over control, etc. (Or at least I hope so.)
    • A small number of parking passes (five) are available for people to use the First Presbyterian Church parking lot. Park first, pick up your pass, and then put it in your car. (I.e. free parking). Call me if you are unsure if we have passes available at 619-820-5321 when you get there.
    • I will be (hopefully) using a projector and screen as I access the site using a browser so you can see what I am doing, and hopefully to allow you to try your hand entering media to the archival system.
    • Also, we need additional volunteers to help with the email blast, and I will be going over that if someone is there who wants to help with that. (This daily newsletter can evolve into something that resembles a regular publication, with your help).
    • This platform can also be used to help maintain a database of people arrested/detained, court actions, police ids and complaints and followup about irregular police behavior.
