Bio

District Judge Marilyn L. Huff was appointed a judge for the Southern District of California on May 9, 1991, and served as chief judge of the district from 1998 to 2005. Prior to her appointment to the federal bench, Judge Huff was a partner with a law firm in San Diego, specializing in civil litigation and media law from 1976 to 1991. Judge Huff serves on the Judicial Conference of the United States Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure, and chairs the Ninth Circuit’s Public Information and Community Outreach (PICO) committee. She has served previously on the Ninth Circuit Judicial Council and the Judicial Resources Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States. She is past president and Master in the Welsh Chapter of the American Inns of Court, past president of Lawyers Club of San Diego, and past vice president of the San Diego County Bar Association. Judge Huff received her undergraduate degree from Calvin College in 1972, and her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1976. She maintains chambers in San Diego.
